The cat was one of the many beautiful animals whose attributes were venerated in Ancient Egypt. It was primarily associated with protection. Initially, it was an incarnation of the god Ra as the slayer of the serpent Apophis, but it reached the height of its influence when it was considered an incarnation of the goddess Bastet.
