In Hinduism, Garuda is a Hindu deity, usually the mount (Vahana) of Lord Vishnu. Garuda is depicted with the golden body of a strongman, a white face, red wings, an eagle's beak, and a crown on his head. This ancient deity was said to be so large that he could block out the sun.
Garuda is known as the sworn enemy of the Naga race of serpents and is known for feeding exclusively on snakes, possibly referring to the short-toed eagle of India. The image of Garuda is often used as a talisman or amulet to protect the wearer from the attack of a snake or its venom, given that the king of birds was a relentless enemy and "snake-eater." Garudi Vidya is the mantra against snake venom to eliminate all forms of evil.
